On Nov. 15 Donald Trump announced that he will run for President in 2024.
There’s been a lot of support for him among voters and Trump supporters, but it’s a different story in the political class.
Republican insiders have been jumping ship on Trump, saying he’s not fit to be president and is too old and too controversial. Many billionaire GOP donors have been doing the same, switching allegiance to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who’s widely expected to run in 2024 as well.
Now a key Trump insider who also has presidential ambitions has turned on Trump, saying he’s the wrong choice for POTUS.
Pompeo Goes After Trump
Speaking Wednesday, Trump’s former Sec. State Mike Pompeo said that Trump is stuck in a victim mentality and isn’t the right one to lead America in 2024.
According to the former top diplomat, Trump isn’t “serious” enough and is full of “noise,” making him a bad choice for the next cycle.
Pompeo said the challenges facing the world are very intense and that having somebody who looks in the “rearview mirror” obsessed with a persecution complex is the wrong choice.
Pompeo was a solid Trump ally throughout the administration, but he clearly seems to be receiving the new talking points and feeling the wind shifting as well.
During his launch, Trump repeatedly said that he is a victim and emphasized how he’s been persecuted and mistreated by the political establishment and deep state.

Is Trump a Victim?
Announcing at Mar-a-Lago on Nov. 15, Trump said he’s a “victim” and that he’s been mistreated and hounded by the media and establishment political class.
Love him or hate him, there’s no doubt it’s true. Trump has taken more “incoming” than almost any politician in history.
Since the day he rode the elevator down in Trump Tower in 2015, he’s been the spotlight of endless plots and criticisms and ongoing prosecutions and plans.
The media can barely shut up about him and how he’s supposedly a threat to “democracy.”
The Democrats even attempted to impeach Trump twice, failing both times.

What About Pompeo?
Pompeo was one of those Trump brought on board to provide a muscular and right-wing posture to America’s foreign policy. He’s generally well liked by the America First crowd and is seen as a patriot and a realist.
This comment from Pompeo is likely to do with the fact that he’s quite an ambitious man and is likely eyeing a 2024 run himself. In addition, he sees that the GOP is switching over to DeSantis and wants to hop aboard that train.
The Bottom Line
Trump is a victim and is unfairly blamed for everything by the political establishment and the left. Nonetheless, Pompeo has a point that Trump needs to stop focusing so much on the past.
